Written by Yasiph

  • Do you see children with special health care needs in your practice?
  • Do you and your staff have experience with a child who has (your child’s special health care need)?
  • What type of services does your practice offer? Of these which do you provide and which are provided by others such as a nurse or physician assistant?
  • Are you comfortable working in a team situation with my child’s other providers? (other physicians, teacher, PT, OT, SLP, case manager, home care nurse, etc.)
  • Are you comfortable being my child’s medical care coordinator?

Keeping your child's records

FOR PARENTS OF SPECIAL NEEDS CHILDREN:
KEEPING YOUR CHILD'S RECORDS

Getting the help we need for our children can be a very daunting task. One of the most powerful tools for facilitating this as we work with professionals is a record book which contains, in an organized way, essential information about your child. Fran Rice, a noted child advocate in the United States, believes parents are in a unique position to create one of these "books" to provide an organized record of information about their child. This record can accelerate the process of professionals gaining familiarity with your child and his/her history. The first task of any expert is to gather information--if you facilitate this process, the doctor/health care professional/educator can spend more time problem solving and intervening, instead of first having to reconstruct your child's "story".

Newsflash

How is Yafaau?

Yafaau is generally ok but we are concerned about his low weight. He's getting thinner day by day, although we try every effort not to let that happen. With feeding difficulty, we are also limited to different textures of food because he is on semi-solid food diet. We also could not give just any food as he is prone to constipation and that has been a concern since his early years.

But he is Fun to be with, smiles and even laughs on when we play with him. Samiya, my wonderful wife makes my life easier takes great care of him and am sort a happy with how he's improving. Slowly but surely :)

Thank you for being with us at Yafaau's FanClub

Thank you all very much for your blessings and concern, and thank you for being with us.

I'd like to remind all of you on Yafaau's FanClub again about telling young minds about children like Yafaau. Talking to young children about children with disAbilities do help them understand more about these "unusual" kids or maybe adults. Many "special" parents still feel difficult to be in public places due to community's response on their child. I however feel if children in our community is openly explained and their parents are made aware of the fact that it is okay to approach and ask "special" parents questions they do not happen to know. Because most of them don't know of any child or a person with a disAbility. Anyway, We can and we will, insha Allah see that day.

Eid Mubarak and Happy Holidays

Yafaau, Samiya and I would like you all to have a happy Eid Holiday this year. May Allah be with all of you.

*Why disAbility? Mark their Ability, not their disability
